Package Units

Small package units are most common in light commercial applications like small office buildings, restaurants, and retail stores. They are occasionally found in residential homes in hot climates. Large package units (also known as rooftop units, RTUs, or boxcar units) are most common in large office buildings, large retail, data centers, etc.

Split Systems

Split systems have two parts: an outdoor condenser and an indoor air handler. The outdoor part is usually found at ground level or on rooftops, while the indoor part is usually found in a closet or on the ceiling in residential homes, or in a mechnical room in light commercial applications. Smaller split systems are most common in residential applications, while larger split systems are used in commercial applications.

Chiller (Water Cooled)

Chillers are typically involved in larger commercial applications. They are usually located in a mechanical room but with outdoor cooling towers tied into the water loop. (Note that Bluon TdX 20 works with most chillers, but not with centrifugal chillers, which are not friendly to zeotropic refrigerant blends.)

Chiller (Air Chilled)

Chillers are typically involved in larger commercial applications. Air cooled chillers look similar to rooftop package units but with insulated water piping. Unlike water cooled chillers, air cooled chillers do not have external water towers.

Energy Savings from TdX 20 (R-458A)

There is a range of energy savings that result from replacing R-22 with TdX 20, which depends on the size of the HVAC system, and other considerations. Typically the larger the HVAC system, the larger the energy savings realized with TdX 20.

An energy savings of 15% is average. For smaller systems that number can be 5-10%, and for larger systems that number can be 20-25%.
